Minister of Defence Olivera Injac participated in the North Atlantic Council at the level of Ministers of Defence, which was held via videoconference. The meeting, chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, was held ahead of the upcoming Summit.

Speaking about the complexity of the modern security environment, the defence ministers stated that the allies must make joint efforts in order to adapt and adequately face all potential challenges for the transatlantic community. In this context, special attention was given to the NATO 2030 initiative, which is the basis of strategic political thinking in order to adapt the Alliance to future challenges that arise as a result of changes on the global stage, as well as accelerated technological development. The Ministers agreed that strengthening the political dimension and preserving military power are the most important preconditions for ensuring that NATO remains successful and able to pursue its key policies smoothly in the coming period.

The meeting was also an opportunity to review the results achieved so far in terms of the implementation of the adopted guidelines, as well as to consider the next steps aimed at improving the system of collective defence. Speaking about the importance of projecting stability outside NATO's borders, it was pointed out that the allies remain committed to the process of preserving stability in Afghanistan. The ministers, referring to the recent decision to end the allied engagement within the 'Resolute Support' mission, said that the withdrawal of forces was proceeding according to the planned dynamics.

Minister Injac pointed out that it was important for all allies to make the necessary efforts to adapt to the constant changes that characterize the security environment, taking into account its complexity and the need to provide a unique and effective response.

Emphasising that the Alliance is the foundation of a strong collective defence, Minister Injac said that Montenegro will continue to work diligently to fulfill key tasks in order to effectively deal with threats that affect the security of the transatlantic area. She also reminded that we actively contribute to the preservation of global peace and security through the engagement of our members in international missions and activities carried out in the field of preserving security on the borders of the Alliance. In that context, she pointed out that Montenegro will continue to support allied activities in terms of continuing the peace process in Afghanistan.

The Ministers emphasised that the nature of the new security challenges also requires strong cooperation with all relevant international actors, primarily the European Union, which is recognised as an important partner of the Alliance.
