Minister Injac participates in SEDM meeting

Minister of Defence Olivera Injac participated today in the South East Defence Ministerial Meeting (SEDM) in Skopje.

She pointed out that the Initiative is an excellent platform for productive and intensive regional dialogue and exchange of opinions on all defence topics of importance for the region of Southeast Europe, but also for channeling the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the countries of this region. Injac said that by participating in regional initiatives and projects, we show readiness to develop capacities and professional competencies for functioning in the wider international environment.

The Minister of Defence emphasised that individual approaches are often not efficient enough, and that integrated action is key within regional initiatives.

Injac pointed out the importance of the participation of the countries of Southeast Europe in solving numerous challenges and threats to international security. She stated that the key to lasting stability and prosperous development of our region lies in Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as a joint contribution to the implementation of regional initiatives.

The ministers discussed the future of the SEDM initiative, the possibility of new migrant flows, terrorism and hybrid threats, and exchanged views on the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the possible consequences. New modalities of regional defence cooperation have been defined, with the aim of building a stable and prosperous region of Southeast Europe, ready to respond to all challenges and threats.

A Joint Statement was signed at the meeting, reaffirming a strong commitment to further advancing regional defence cooperation, with the aim of promoting lasting peace, stability and security in Southeast Europe.

The meeting was held during Bulgarian SEDM Chairmanship.
