National Anti-Corruption Council holds its constitutive session

At today's constitutive session, the National Anti-Corruption Council discussed the issue of illegal exploitation of gravel and stated that despite the measures taken so far, it is necessary to do a lot more in order to solve this big problem facing Montenegro. It was assessed that better coordination of all state bodies involved in combating illegal exploitation in the Morača riverbed and other riverbeds is necessary. Also, it was concluded that in order to permanently stop the illegal exploitation of gravel, it is necessary to tighten the sanctions against the companies and individuals involved in this illegal business.

The Council will propose that the Government engages the Armed Forces of Montenegro in order to protect the Bolje Sestre water source and the Morača riverbed. The Council expects the judicial branch of government, the Prosecutor's Office and the Police to act.

Prime Minister and President of the Council Dritan Abazović also proposed that the Construction Inspection carries out the demolition and removal of illegally built buildings used by illegal gravel exploiters.

In order to work more efficiently, the Council will also form an Operational Team whose members will be in charge of increasing the efficiency of all institutions in charge of combating the illegal exploitation of gravel and corruption, which has been encouraging this phenomenon for years.

At today's session, the Rules of Procedure were adopted. It was decided that the Deputy President of the Council will be Minister Zoran Miljanić, and the members will be Deputy Prime Minister Ervin Ibrahimović, Ministers Marko Kovač, Filip Adžić, Aleksandar Damjanović, Ana Novaković Đurović, Miomir Vojinović, Dragoslav Šćekić, Acting President of the Supreme Court Vesna Vučković, Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Maja Jovanović, Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović, Director of the National Security Agency Boris Milić, Director of the Police Directorate Zoran Brđanin, Director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption Jelena Perović, Director of the Administration for Inspection Affairs Ana Vujošević, Director of the Revenue and Customs Administration Vladimir Bulajić, President of the Chamber of Economy Nina Drakić, as well as representatives of the NGO sector Vladimir Otašević, Ana Đurnić, Ognjen Mitrović and Bojana Jokić.
