The Berlin Process
The Berlin Process
Established in 2014 at the initiative of the Federative Republic of Germany, the Berlin Process is a platform for strengthening regional cooperation in the Western Balkans and supporting the region’s European integration.
Participants are Western Balkan countries, partner governments participating in the Process, European Union institutions, international financial institutions and regional organisations.
The Process is designed to turn regional cooperation and connectivity into concrete benefits for citizens. Through regional initiatives and projects, it supports cooperation across a broad range of areas, strengthens good-neighbourly relations and contributes to the European integration of the Western Balkans.
The Berlin Process has a flexible structure, without a permanent central coordination mechanism. The chairmanship rotates among partners in coordination with the German Government.
The Process extends beyond the annual Leaders’ Summit. Throughout the year, it brings together ministers, experts and representatives of different sectors through ministerial meetings, conferences and thematic events.
