PM Đukanović, UNDP's McCluney: National and strategic goals of Montenegro coincide with those of UN system

PR Service Podgorica, Montenegro (11 September 2015) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted earlier today newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Fiona McCluney.

The Prime Minister voiced satisfaction with the cooperation between Montenegro and the United Nations system and its Office in Podgorica.

"The positive experience of cooperation and numerous programmes that havd been implemented make a good basis for further development of relations between Montenegro and the UN, and are of great importance for the development of the state," the Prime Minister Đukanović noted, emphasising the coincidence of national and strategic goals of Montenegro with the UN system.

UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Fiona Mc Cluney pledged full support for the fulfillment of Montenegro’s strategic goals and commended the country’s positive contribution to the process of achieving sustainable development goals.

She also referred to the United Nations’ support in pursuing reforms from Montenegro’s EU agenda, the rule of law, gender equality, environmental protection, which are compatible with the values of the UN system.

On the eve of the Prime Minister’s meetings in the UN headquarters in New York later this month, the two officials exchanged views on the new UN aid system and close collaboration for the future.
