Implementation of the project "TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR CAPACITY SUPPORT TO THE TRANSPORT SECTOR AND EU ACQUIS ALIGNMENT IN MONTENEGRO " of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs

The contract for the project "Technical assistance for Capacity support to the transport sector and EU acquis alignment in Montenegro” of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs was signed on 20. 11. 2019. between the Public Works Administration (contracting authority) and the Consortium headed by Business and Strategies in Europe, with. A. (B&S Europe) from Belgium. Considering that the contract relates to the harmonization of national legislation with EU acquis in the transport sector and the provision of capacities for implementation of the aforementioned, the aim of the contract is to support and prepare national legislation and strategies in accordance with EU acquis requirements, as well as to support the strengthening of planning and management capacities of the institutions involved in the implementation of transport policies and projects. 

The total value of the contract is 3. 661.177.00 EUR, of which EU funding is 85% and national co-financing 15%. The beneficiaries of the project are the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs (and in particular the Directorate for International Cooperation and EU Funds), Public Works Administration as the contracting authority for IPA, the Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro (as the final beneficiary of projects in the railway infrastructure sector financed through IPA). The project is funded by Country Action Programme for 2017 (CAP 2017) under IPA II and will last 4 years.

On that occasion, a kick-off meeting was held on 11.12.2019. was held for the said project. The meeting was opened by the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurković, who welcomed the attendees and expressed his satisfaction over the signed contract. Minister Nurković underlined the importance of the project itself which will improve the administrative and technical capacities, wand expressed expectations and desire for the project implementation to go as planned. The attendees were addressed by the Director of the Public Works Administration, Mr. Rešad Nuhodžić, who expressed the readiness of this institution to fully implement the project activities and wished the participants successful implementation of the contract.

The kick-off was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Public Works Administration, Business and Strategies in Europe, the Office of the National IPA Coordinator, the Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro, the Ministry of the Interior and the EU Delegation to Montenegro.
