Abazović: 'Anti-mafia' law is aimed at confiscation of property of illegal origin

Persons who obtained money from illegal activities, smuggling of tobacco, narcotics, misuse of state resources and goods must compensate the state. Otherwise, justice in Montenegro is impossible. In that sense, we have a set of anti-mafia laws, Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović pointed out at the roundtable on the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Confiscation of Proceeds of Crime.

Abazović stated that the most important thing was to take care that the legal solution was optimal, that it corresponded to the conditions in Montenegro and that the solution was applicable in our legal and institutional framework.

DPM Abazović said that no one should be afraid of this Law. It is aimed at confiscation of property of illegal origin only.

This is one of the most important legal texts when it comes to the fight against crime and corruption. This is a law which, for the sake of its full efficiency, must be followed by the early initiation of financial investigations and a coordinated system with a clear goal to achieve results, said Minister of the Interior and Coordinator of the Ministry of Justice Sergej Sekulović.

State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights Boris Marić said that all submitted comments will be carefully considered by the Ministry and the Working Group.

The application of the law largely depends on the cooperation of state bodies. It must be a coordinated action, said Legal Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Šoć.
