Bečić: Velika is a deep wound, but also a clear reminder that peace must always be preserved

Today we mark 81 years since the horrific massacre of innocent residents of the village of Velika, near Čakor.

With the adoption of the Resolution on the Genocide in Velika, Montenegro has demonstrated the strength to confront its past – not to deepen divisions, but to build a society rooted in truth, justice, and reconciliation.

Velika remains a painful wound, but also a reminder that peace must always be safeguarded, and that goodness among people must prevail. Everything else is a collapse of humanity we must always resist.

Once again, we bow our heads in honor of the innocent victims of Velika.
