The Montenegrin Cabinet, at today's session, proclaimed the third marine protected area - the Nature Park Stari Ulcinj, thus achieving important national and international goals in the field of nature protection.

As in the cases of nature parks "Platamuni" and "Katič", the Nature Park Stari Ulcinj is proposed for protection due to the value of its biodiversity, especially those species and habitats that need to be protected, primarily species protected by national legislation, as well as endangered species according to the European Union and international conventions.

The area of protected areas in Montenegro increased by 4,764.7 ha in 2021.
