Spajić: The vision of Velje Brdo is becoming a reality today
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić officially marked the start of the construction of Velje Brdo Boulevard today, signaling the commencement of the Velje Brdo project.
In addition to the roadway, work is also underway on the hydro-technical, energy, and telecommunication infrastructure for the future settlement.
The vision of decision-makers is only good if it aligns with the real needs of our citizens. Over 15,000 households have shown their trust in this project and expressed interest on the website, and today we can say that this vision is becoming a reality, and the Velje Brdo project is beginning. Many doubted it, but this first step is only one of many that will follow, said the Prime Minister.
Speaking about the project’s development timeline, the Prime Minister acknowledged that there had been a delay of a few months.
However, the most important thing is that the project has begun, and we can see the shovel in the ground.
Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property Slaven Radunović stated that this is a special day for Montenegro.
We are on the verge of realizing the largest urban development project in the history of Montenegro. Today is a festive day, and those who criticized us should celebrate too. We invite everyone to rejoice together because this is for the good of all of Montenegro. This is a significant advancement, a project that will alleviate Podgorica’s congestion and reduce real estate prices. I recommend young couples, tenants, and anyone who needs housing to apply. We will build as much as necessary, said the Minister, adding that 630 apartments would be built in the first phase.
Minister of Public Works Majda Adžović emphasized that the Velje Brdo project is one of the largest state projects.
The manipulations that existed in the implementation of this project were essentially aimed at causing distrust. Unlike other large projects implemented by the government, this one has the potential to solve one of Montenegro’s most pressing issues—resolving housing problems for citizens who currently find it unimaginable to afford real estate at current market prices. It will also help tenants who will now have the opportunity to solve their housing issues, Minister Adžović said.
Mayor of Podgorica Saša Mujović pointed out that Podgorica is a city that requires expansion.
We want to implement the best practices of spatial planning and architecture here, said Mujović.
He emphasized that Podgorica is a city of youth, the administrative, and cultural center of Montenegro.
Through this project, we want to retain the most promising young people in Podgorica and Montenegro. Additionally, this project will assist our fellow citizens whose incomes are insufficient to solve their housing problems under current market conditions. As the Mayor of Podgorica, I will insist that the city return to its good roots and examples of quality planning, Mujović concluded.
Aleksandar Nišavić, the Director of the Water and Sewerage Company of Podgorica, stated that a strategy for hydro-technical and technological studies is being prepared, which will address the required quantities of drinking water and the disposal of municipal wastewater. A study on the impact of the settlement on the Mareza water source is also underway.
These plans will ensure a quality infrastructure that will not endanger the operation of the water supply and wastewater systems of the capital, said Nišavić.
The total length of the planned Boulevard is 5.3 kilometers, and preparatory works worth 1.4 million EUR are being carried out by "KONSTRUKTOR GROUP" DOO from Bijelo Polje, with an expected completion time of 120 days.
