Deputy Prime Minister Aleksić visits the Library for the Blind of Montenegro

Deputy Prime Minister for Education, Science, and Relations with Religious Communities Budimir Aleksić visited the Library for the Blind of Montenegro. During the visit, he spoke with the library’s director Božidar Denda, and the Chairman of the Library Council Zdravko Vukčević.

This cultural institution is of immeasurable importance not only for the development of culture but also for education and science in Montenegro, as its dedicated and quality work enables equal access to information, books, and journals for everyone who, for any reason, cannot use printed text. I hope that the authorities responsible for the first Library of accessible formats in our country, after two decades of successful operation, will resolve the issue of adequate premises – providing a ‘roof over the head’ for this cultural temple, said Deputy Prime Minister Aleksić.

Director Denda briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on recent legislative changes affecting the institution’s status, as well as the challenges posed by inadequate space.

The library is eager to begin transforming the institution in line with the new Law, which came into force in October. This legislation brings significant improvements in the structure and future development of the library. For starters, it would be important for the library to secure an appropriate cadastral plot in the capital city for building a new facility, said Denda.

Director Denda presented Deputy Prime Minister Aleksić with a certificate of appreciation for his special contribution to the library’s development in the previous year.

During the tour, hosts familiarized Aleksić with the process of producing books in accessible formats. The meeting was also attended by Vladimir Jovović, a member of the Library Council.
