DPM Bečić: Vetting is key prerequisite for complete recovery of Montenegrin institutions

Congratulations to the Special State Prosecutor's Office and Police Directorate for the excellently prepared and successfully executed action that led to the arrest of 7 individuals and the criminal prosecution of 15 individuals charged with forming a criminal organisation and continued crime of smuggling.

The fact that the competent authorities pressed criminal charges against the mentioned individuals of smuggling at least around 23,500 packages of cigarettes in 2020 and 2021, securing illegal profits for a criminal organisation and causing damage to the State of at least around EUR 18.2 million, speaks to the significance and magnitude of this case.

With each passing day, evidenced by actions and historical results, it is clear that the State is determined and persistent in the fight against all forms of crime and that there is no individual or criminal group that can be protected. Anyone involved in crime no longer sleeps peacefully and no one can evade being brought to justice. Continuing to resolutely fight crime and clearing institutions of all illicit influences is the sacred duty of every true patriot of this country. Vetting is a key prerequisite for the complete recovery of the Montenegrin institutions.
