DPM Borovinić Bojović hosts UNDP Resident Representative Ekaterina Paniklova

Deputy Prime Minister for Health and Social Welfare Jelena Borovinić Bojović hosted earlier today the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Montenegro Ekaterina Paniklova.

During a cordial and substantive discussion, both sides highlighted the indispensable contribution of UNDP to Montenegro’s development. They exchanged views on the directions of future cooperation, with particular emphasis on areas of strategic importance.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted issues related to digital transformation, as well as the challenges involved in implementing telemedicine programmes. Particular attention was placed on young people health, including the prevention and treatment of obesity, which represents a risk factor for a number of health conditions, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The need for increased attention to women’s health was also emphasised, including programmes aimed at cancer prevention.

Borovinić Bojović also briefed the UNDP Representative about the new programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, promoting their greater inclusion and strengthening their participation in society.

The two officials agreed on the need for greater investment in promoting healthy lifestyles, including the development of sports and sports tourism.

UNDP Representatives highlighted the success of the nine-year Regional Programme on Local Democracy in the Western Balkans (ReLOaD) as a successful platform for enhancing cooperation and developing new programmes, including those in the fields of health and social welfare.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to continuing their strategic partnership with the aim of improving citizens’ quality of life and supporting Montenegro’s development.
