DPM Ivanović meets Ambassador of Slovak Republic Eva Ponomarenkova

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović hosted earlier today Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Montenegro Eva Ponomarenkova.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović welcomed Ambassador Ponomarenkova, noting that her mandate began successfully, and expressed confidence that during her tenure, there will be further strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation in the areas of economy, tourism, energy and culture.

He emphasised that Montenegro sees Slovakia as a reliable partner and ally, particularly appreciating its continuous support in the process of the EU accession. He highlighted that, in the context of completing negotiations with the EU by the end of this year, the Government of Montenegro is focused on accelerating reforms and achieving concrete results in the areas of the rule of law and strengthening institutions.

DPM Ivanović also pointed out the importance of enhancing political dialogue and exchanging experiences, particularly through parliamentary and expert cooperation, as well as through the upcoming bilateral meetings.

At the same time, he stressed that the Friends of the Western Balkans Group, of which Slovakia is a member, and itsnext meeting, which will be held in Bratislava, play an exceptional role in promoting the enlargement policy within the EU.

Ambassador Ponomarenkova stated that Slovakia remains a strong advocate of the enlargement policy and the European perspective of Montenegro. She emphasised that her country recognises the efforts Montenegro is making in reforms and expressed readiness to continue providing expert and technical support in key negotiating areas. She particularly welcomed the initiative to open the Montenegrin Embassy in Bratislava, considering that such a move would further strengthen institutional presence and contribute to intensifying overall bilateral relations. She also highlighted Slovakia's interest in deepening economic cooperation, particularly through the carrying out of investment projects and strengthening business ties. Furthermore, she pointed out the significance of establishing a direct air link between Bratislava and Podgorica, noting that such a connection will further stimulate tourism and enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides agreed that the relations between Montenegro and Slovakia are characterised by stable partnership and mutual trust, with a shared willingness to further improve cooperation through concrete initiatives in the upcoming period.
