DPM Zogović congratulates Nikšić on being named European Capital of Culture 2030

Milun Zogović, Deputy Prime Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development and Vice President of the Democratic People's Party, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Marko Kovačević, President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Milica Lalatović Žižić, President of the Municipal Assembly, and to all citizens of Nikšić on the city’s well-deserved historic recognition – being officially named the European Capital of Culture for 2030 in Brussels yesterday. Zogović emphasized that this achievement not only promotes Nikšić as a European cultural hub, but also reaffirms that Montenegro has long been a significant cultural destination within Europe.
Highlighting that this is yet another positive signal from Europe of Montenegro’s progress towards EU membership, Zogović recalled that Nikšić has always been a city of culture, creativity, and distinguished individuals whose achievements have carried Montenegro’s reputation beyond its borders. He noted that this recognition represents a victory for cultural justice at the highest level, confirming Nikšić’s rightful place on Europe’s cultural map.
According to Zogović, the final decision is proof that fairness in culture ultimately prevails on the global stage, and that the cultural mosaic of both Nikšić and Montenegro has now been completed in the most beautiful way.
He underlined that Nikšić has always been a beacon of Montenegrin culture, and that this new historic acknowledgment brings joy to citizens across the country – while also marking the beginning of significant work ahead.
Zogović concluded that the city under Trebjesa hill, together with the entire country, must work collectively to further strengthen and shape Nikšić’s cultural profile in the years leading up to 2030, when the city will shine in its full light and once again justify Europe’s trust and recognition. He added that this success reaffirms both Nikšić and Montenegro as spaces of high cultural values and enduring tradition.
