DPM's Office: Ivo Šoć appointed as new Legal Adviser

Published on: Jun 9, 2021 1:30 PM Author: Office of the Deputy Prime Minister

Legal Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović will be Ivo Šoć, a former lawyer in the Office of the Representative of Montenegro before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

On behalf of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Šoć will also be a member of the Working Group for the Preparation and Conduct of Negotiations on Montenegro's Accession to the European Union in the Acquis Communautaire, which refers to the negotiating chapter 23 - Judiciary and Fundamental Rights.

Absolute priorities in the work of the Government and the Office of DPM Abazović are the fight against corruption and organised crime, as well as reforms in the area of the rule of law, as a key aspect of the integration process of Montenegro. Given the revised methodology of the European Commission's accession negotiations and the obligation that no new chapter can be closed until Montenegro meets the provisional benchmarks set out in Chapters 23 and 24, work on the rule of law reform is priority at this point in the accession negotiations. In that sense, we believe that Šoć, who has an enviable experience of working in the judicial authorities and the European Court of Human Rights, will contribute to the upcoming reforms, said the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

Since 2016, Ivo Šoć has been employed in the Office of the Representative of Montenegro before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. From 2009 to 2016, he worked at the High Court in Podgorica, and in 2019 he gained work experience in the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Šoć was a member of several working groups of the Council of Europe, where he represented Montenegro in Strasbourg as an expert. Participant in several regional conferences and seminars in the field of rule of law and co-author of several publications of the European Court of Human Rights.

Šoć graduated from the Faculty of Law in Podgorica and has passed the bar exam.
