Minister without Portfolio Zoran Miljanić met with UNDP Resident Representative for Montenegro Daniela Gašparíková. The meeting emphasised the importance of adopting the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

The recent arrests of holders of important judicial functions are certainly important, but they are not enough to stop corruption, which is an endemic phenomenon in Montenegro, said Minister Miljanić.

Gašparíková assessed that it is very important to ensure an impartial trial in this process.

In this way, and with the necessary reforms and efficient implementation of the existing legislation, the trust of citizens in institutions is being strengthened, said Gašparíková.

Gašparíková pointed out that the focus of UNDP support is on the prevention of corruption and strengthening institutions, i.e. on strengthening integrity, transparency and accountability in the public sector.

She reminded that the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and UNDP Montenegro presented a report on the implementation of assessment methodologies for corruption mitigation.

Gašparíková expressed UNDP's readiness to provide support in drafting the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
