Gorčević: Montenegro’s Voice Is Heard Today with Special Attention and Respect

“May 9 is not just Europe Day. It is a day that reminds us that the greatest historical stories began in countries that believed in their future,” said Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević.
Today, together with the Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Riccardo Serri, she officially opened the traditional EU Fair in Podgorica, where, as part of the central Europe Day celebration, embassies of EU member states, institutions, EU projects, and local producers presented themselves.
The Minister said that Montenegro’s path toward membership is no longer only a state objective, but a civilizational transformation created by people with enough knowledge and courage, because they know that this country can become part of the most successful community of modern democracies.
“That is why this generation has an obligation to leave young people a fairer country than the one it inherited. This is especially important because the sense of belonging to Europe is most strongly recognized precisely among young people: through the languages they speak, the plans they make, and the belief that they can live and create right here in Montenegro,” said Gorčević.
The Minister emphasized that it also carries special symbolism that this year Montenegro is chairing the Berlin Process and bringing together regional and international leaders at the European Union–Western Balkans Summit.
She said that this is not only a political moment, but also confirmation that Montenegro’s voice today is heard with special attention and respect.
“I believe that the year 2028 will have a special place in the history of our country as the year in which we become the 28th member of the European Union. I am certain that, with our identity, culture, and sense of freedom, we will enrich the community to which we have long belonged in terms of values,” said the Minister of European Affairs.
The Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro and the Ministry of European Affairs, in cooperation with Montenegrin municipalities and with the support of the EU projects European House, EU4ME, and Municipalities for the EU, are marking Europe Day across the country through a rich and diverse program throughout May.
