Historic decisions at NATO Madrid summit will strengthen Europe's security

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ranko Krivokapić is participating in the NATO summit in Madrid.

On the first day of the Summit, the Montenegrin Foreign Minister attended a meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Heads of State and Government. The meeting of 30 member states welcomed the signing of the historic agreement between Turkey, Sweden and Finland, which opens the door for the membership of these Nordic countries in NATO and strengthens the security of Europe.

The key topics discussed by the allies are deterrence and defense policy, relations with Russia in the light of aggression against Ukraine, strengthening partnership with the EU and the Indo-Pacific states.

In addition to the leaders of NATO member states, the Summit is attended by the heads of state and government of Georgia, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea, as well as European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Krivokapić - Havisto

On the sidelines of the first day of the Madrid Summit, Foreign Minister Ranko Krivokapić spoke with Foreign Minister of Finland Pekka Haavisto. The officials agreed that the historic trilateral agreement concluded in Madrid showed that the open door policy is alive, and that NATO is ready for new members - Finland and Sweden. Krivokapić stressed Montenegro's strong support for their accession as soon as possible, as well as its readiness to deepen cooperation at the bilateral level by exchanging invitations for official visits.
