Ibrahimović in New York: Strengthening Montenegro’s ties with the diaspora and commitment to humanitarian action

On the first day of his visit to New York, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Ervin Ibrahimović, together with President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović, met with representatives of the diaspora. Ibrahimović expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, emphasizing that the diaspora is an inseparable part of Montenegro’s identity and development. He underlined that the human, intellectual, and economic potential of our citizens abroad represents a bridge connecting Montenegro with the United States and the rest of the world.
The diaspora is our important partner in advancing society and a source of strength for Montenegro abroad, Ibrahimović stated, adding his conviction that the diaspora will continue to jointly support Montenegro’s European path in the period ahead.
Ibrahimović also thanked the diaspora for organizing numerous humanitarian initiatives, through which, as he noted, they selflessly demonstrate their readiness to support and assist Montenegro’s most vulnerable citizens. He further highlighted that the diaspora can be a driver of economic development through investments, mentorship, and expert support.
Ahead of the opening of the United Nations General Debate, Ibrahimović signed the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel. By signing, participating states commit, at the highest political level, to adopt measures and uphold principles for the protection of humanitarian personnel before, during, and after conflicts.
The purpose of the declaration is to reaffirm the international community’s commitment to respecting and protecting international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law. It further underscores the importance of safeguarding humanitarian workers and the crucial role of humanitarian action as a lifeline for civilians in times of conflict.
