Ibrahimović meets British MPs: Strong partnership with the UK contributes to regional stability and Montenegro’s EU progress

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović held a meeting with a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British House of Commons, during which the high level of understanding and trust between Montenegro and the United Kingdom was reaffirmed.
Ibrahimović emphasized that the United Kingdom is one of Montenegro’s key partners, with which it has built a strong alliance within NATO, as well as a stable and substantive bilateral cooperation. In that context, he highlighted the importance of signing the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the two states, a document confirming mutual commitment to strengthening political dialogue and cooperation based on shared democratic values and strong historical ties.
Ibrahimović expressed particular appreciation for the fact that London hosted this year’s Berlin Process Summit, noting that such engagement represents a clear signal of the UK’s continued commitment to cooperation with Western Balkan countries. He underlined that this level of support contributes to Montenegro’s and the region’s efforts to accelerate the reduction of socio-economic disparities with EU member states through reforms within the EU accession process.
Ibrahimović also noted that Montenegro successfully contributed to delivering this year’s priorities and agreements within the Berlin Process, and expressed particular satisfaction with the upcoming assumption of the Process Presidency in 2026. He recalled that in the same year Montenegro will also preside over the Western Balkans Fund and host the EU–Western Balkans Summit, describing these responsibilities as important diplomatic and political milestones on both the regional and European levels.
During the meeting, Ibrahimović reiterated Montenegro’s determination to do everything in its power to conclude accession negotiations by the end of 2026 and be ready for full EU membership in 2028. He stressed that the EU’s enlargement policy, through Montenegro’s example, can once again demonstrate its strategic relevance and credibility, and noted that the latest European Commission Report – the most positive to date – is a strong incentive for Montenegro’s full EU membership.
Members of the UK Parliament highlighted the importance of intensive dialogue and cooperation with Montenegro, as well as with other Western Balkan countries, particularly in order to strengthen the promotion of Western values and support further Euro-Atlantic enlargement. They reaffirmed their strong support for Montenegro in achieving its key foreign policy goal – full membership in the European Union – and emphasized that the UK will continue to value and support reforms that reinforce democracy and stability across the region.
