Ibrahimović meets with UN High Commissioner Türk

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, who is paying a visit to Montenegro.
Ibrahimović expressed appreciation for what is the first visit of a UN High Commissioner for Human Rights since Montenegro regained its independence, highlighting it as a recognition of the excellent cooperation, partnership, and trust placed in Montenegro as a responsible and credible UN member state.
He reaffirmed Montenegro’s strong commitment to multilateralism, emphasizing the country’s belief in the fundamental importance of human rights and the United Nations in addressing global challenges. We appreciate the High Commissioner’s independent stance and clear voice, and view the strengthening of multilateralism as key to resolving many global issues” the Minister said.
He also pointed to Montenegro’s leadership in the European integration process as evidence of the country’s societal maturity, clear vision, and dedication to embedding European standards—especially in the areas of human rights and rule of law—into its national legal system.
The meeting also addressed the growing impact of global challenges and the importance of preserving multilateralism, the core principles of international law, and human rights. Particular emphasis was placed on Montenegro’s multiethnic and multireligious character as a reflection of its commitment to human rights and universal values.
The two officials also exchanged views on current regional issues, agreeing that respect for human rights and the rule of law remain the strongest defence against malign influences from third parties.
