Ibrahimović, Wadephul: Strong German support for Montenegro’s European path

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Johann Wadephul ahead of the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Pržno.

The meeting confirmed the high level of bilateral relations between Montenegro and Germany, based on intensive political dialogue, their alliance within NATO and a shared commitment to the European future of the Western Balkans.
Ibrahimović thanked Germany for its strong and continued political and expert support for Montenegro’s European integration, stressing that Montenegro is determined to make the most of the current momentum, conclude the accession negotiations by the end of the year and be ready for EU membership by 2028.
Montenegro’s progress shows that the enlargement policy delivers results when the process is merit-based and grounded in concrete reforms. Montenegro’s success would provide strong confirmation of the credibility of the enlargement policy and the European Union’s ability to turn its strategic decisions into tangible results, Ibrahimović said.

The interlocutors highlighted the importance of the Berlin Process as a key framework for strengthening regional cooperation and bringing the Western Balkans closer to the European Union. Ibrahimović thanked Germany for its support for Montenegro’s chairmanship of the Process and welcomed Minister Wadephul’s participation in the meeting in Pržno, as well as the forthcoming participation of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Berlin Process Summit on 22 October.
The meeting also covered further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy, investment, energy, security and defence. Both sides expressed a shared interest in continuing intensive political dialogue and further strengthening the partnership between Montenegro and Germany, both bilaterally and within NATO and the European integration process.
