Krivokapić, Sobel: Montenegro's perspective is in true and substantive dialogue

Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, during his working visit to the United Kingdom, met with the Chairman of Montenegro APPG and a Member of Parliament Alex Sobel.

Prime Minister Krivokapić emphasised the importance of cooperation between the parliaments of both countries, stressing that Montenegro is working intensively on the implementation of reforms in the field of rule of law, and that he expects results that are fully in line with the suggestions of European partners who expect Montenegro to truly be a state based on the principle of zero tolerance for corruption, organised crime and lawlessness.

Montenegro's perspective is in a true and substantive dialogue at the regional and interstate level, as well as in the internal parliamentary dialogue, because a country without a true social dialogue, no matter what goals it proclaims, cannot move forward and adopt new values. This is the most benevolent message of our European partners, which the Government of Montenegro sees as the key to the continuation of accelerated reforms and the successful conduct of accession negotiations, said Krivokapić.

The Prime Minister said that Montenegro, as a parliamentary democracy that had its historical discontinuities, finally experiences parliamentarism, saying that the current Government would do everything to use the evident, existing democratic capacity for the benefit of all citizens and the satisfaction of many international partners.

Mr. Sobel said that he was looking forward to visiting our country, emphasising that it was noticeable that the Government was following a democratic path. He said the two countries have good parliamentary cooperation, which should be further strengthened.

The meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Economic Development Jakov Milatović, also discussed economic issues. Prime Minister Krivokapić said that Montenegro can be rich only if it is energy rich. He also said that if we want democratic changes, it is necessary for us as a country to embark on accelerated economic reforms. Sobel pointed out that Montenegro and the United Kingdom should improve trade ties, emphasising that renewable energy sources are the greatest potential of Montenegro.
