Marović meets UN Resident Coordinator to Montenegro

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Jovana Marović met with UN Resident Coordinator to Montenegro Peter Lundberg. Having in mind the complementarity of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the process of Montenegro's accession to the EU, it is important to strengthen the partnership through the implementation of joint activities, the officials agreed.

The current cooperation with the UN system in Montenegro represents great support on Montenegro's European path. We want to continue and deepen this cooperation, and you can count on the Ministry of European Affairs, as the institution that coordinates the process of European integration, Marović said.

Marović pointed out that the Government is pro-European and focused on achieving concrete results, especially in the area of the rule of law, which should ultimately contribute to strengthening the economy and a better living standards for all citizens.

As she said, economic issues, social cohesion and environmental protection are in the focus of the Government's activities, and in that regard they expect the continuation of meaningful cooperation with the UN system in Montenegro.

Lundberg pointed out that the UN is working on finalising a five-year cooperation programme with Montenegro, which will serve as a joint platform for implementing reform activities arising from the country's two key development processes - EU accession and the Agenda 2030. In that context, he emphasised the importance of strengthening and consolidating partner support, so that activities could be carried out in the most efficient and effective way, and for the benefit of all citizens.

Both sides agreed that UN support is of great importance for the implementation of reforms at the local level, adding that complementarity of the two development processes is of great importance for achieving visible results in all areas of public policy and positive change in society.
