Montenegro 2030 – From Commitment to Acceleration

The Office for Sustainable Development, in cooperation with the United Nations in Montenegro, has launched the montenegro2030.me platform to mark two decades since Montenegro became a member of the United Nations.

The platform brings together information on the partnership between Montenegro and the United Nations system over the past twenty years, with a particular focus on their joint efforts to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Since joining the United Nations in 2006, Montenegro has made significant progress in implementing sustainable development policies. This progress is reflected in the strengthening of the institutional framework, the advancement of public policies, and improvements in citizens' quality of life. It has also been further driven by the country's European integration process, as the Sustainable Development Goals are closely aligned with the European Union's reform priorities.

In order to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, Montenegro presented its Statement of Commitment to Accelerate the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations General Assembly in 2023. By doing so, the country reaffirmed its determination to translate strategic objectives into concrete actions and measurable results. The platform highlights both the achievements and the remaining challenges across all priority areas identified in the Statement of Commitment. These priorities include improving the position of the most vulnerable groups in society, strengthening the rule of law, enhancing the quality of education, advancing gender equality, accelerating the green transition, and further reinforcing the institutional and financial capacities needed for sustainable development.

As 2030 approaches, it is essential to further accelerate reforms and align them with Montenegro's European Union accession process in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Through strong cooperation among all stakeholders and the continued support of international partners, Montenegro remains committed to translating its development priorities into concrete measures and tangible results, building a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous society.
