Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met today with the non-resident Ambassador of Luxembourg to Montenegro Philippe Donckel.

Expressing gratitude for everything that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has done for Montenegro in the past fifteen years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations, especially during the accession negotiations, Prime Minister Krivokapić pointed out that Luxembourg remains a model country for the current Government in the EU integration process.

I have repeatedly pointed out that I would like Montenegro to be like Luxembourg in every respect, said PM Krivokapić.

The Prime Minister said that the numerous Montenegrin emigrant community in Luxembourg represents an important bridge for strengthening ties between the two countries.

We attach great importance to cooperation with the Montenegrin diaspora in Luxembourg and we are committed to maintaining close ties with numerous emigrant groups of Montenegrin origin. We look with great pride and satisfaction at the fact that Montenegrin emigrants in Luxembourg are well integrated, dedicated to their work, and that they represent a useful part of Luxembourg society, the Prime Minister emphasised.

The Prime Minister informed Ambassador Donckel about the exceptional results achieved during the last summer tourist season and expressed satisfaction that, from 1 April this year, the intensive air traffic between Luxembourg and Montenegro is running smoothly.

I use this opportunity to thank Prime Minister Xavier Bettel for his understanding and support in the process of introducing flights from Luxembourg to Pogdorica, Krivokapić said.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the two countries have an exceptional opportunity to intensify economic cooperation and achieve a greater presence of Luxembourg investments in Montenegro, especially in the field of tourism, energy and the green economy.

The current Government wants to use renewable energy sources as the primary resources. In that sense, we are preparing several significant projects. It is planned that 2022 will be a year of large investments, and we reckon that we can achieve cooperation with the business community from Luxembourg. This especially refers to the north of Montenegro, where the largest number of our citizens living in your country come from, said Krivokapić.

Ambassador Donckel expressed satisfaction that there is an obvious friendship and trust between the two countries.

There is no doubt that a large number of Montenegrins living in Luxembourg represent an obligation for us to further improve economic cooperation between Luxembourg and Montenegro, said Ambassador Donkel.

The Ambassador of Luxembourg expressed understanding for the economic challenges facing the current Government, emphasising that the diversification of the economy and balanced development of all parts of the country are also the goals of Luxembourg administration, adding that there is room for exchanging valuable expert experiences.
