PM Krivokapić hosts the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium

Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić hosted today the non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Montenegro, H.E. Koenraad Adam.

Prime Minister Krivokapić expressed his gratitude for everything that H.E. Adam works for Montenegro as a Belgian Ambassador. The Prime Minister informed the Ambassador about the reform and transition processes in Montenegro.

"This is a turning point in Montenegro's history. The first democratic transition after 75 years is underway," Krivokapić said. The Prime Minister pointed out that the current Government faces challenges that are bigger and more complex than those faced by mature European democracies. The Prime Minister also informed the Ambassador about the Government's efforts to maintain social balance and to distance itself from all extremism, which would jeopardize the stability of Montenegro, as well as its European values and Euro-Atlantic path.

"The Government is doing everything to ensure that Montenegrin society achieves zero tolerance for corruption and chauvinism, and not for tolerance, dialogue and respect for different opinion," Krivokapić said.

The Montenegrin Prime Minister presented to the Belgian Ambassador the Government's economic vision aimed at the necessary diversification of the economy. Prime Minister Krivokapić pointed out the projected expectations from the upcoming tourist season and how it can decisively influence future events in the Montenegrin economy. The Prime Minister emphasised that all available social potentials have been activated in order to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control, and that the vaccination dynamics fuels additional optimism.

Ambassador Adam thanked for the hospitality and warm reception, adding that democratic changes are something that Belgium, as a sincere European partner of Montenegro, certainly wishes for.

"Your Government has huge potential. We see the possibility of things changing for the better. We want this Government to continue to respect the values to which we are committed. We want you to join the EU as soon as possible," Adam said.

Ambassador Adam expressed understanding for the problems that Montenegro as a tourist destination is facing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are at your disposal. We understand the challenges you are facing, but it is necessary to focus on the economic problems that are the result of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Ambassador Adam.
