The Government and the parliamentary majority are fully committed to fulfilling all obligations under the European agenda, and key legislation must be adopted by the end of July in order to close all negotiation chapters between Montenegro and the European Union this year.

This was stated following the meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and leaders of the parliamentary majority, held as part of consultations initiated with representatives of all parliamentary parties regarding the fulfilment of obligations under the European agenda.

As Prime Minister Spajić emphasised, this ambitious yet achievable goal requires stronger political will, continuous institutional coordination, and full accountability of all political actors.

The discussion focused on defining the next steps in the demanding final phase of the negotiation process, with agreement that the laws for which opinions from the European Commission have been received, are an absolute priority in the work of Parliament.

It was noted that the majority of laws required for alignment with EU legislation and for closing negotiation chapters could be adopted by the end of July, i.e. by the end of the regular spring session of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The importance of political dialogue in Parliament was particularly emphasised, given that political stability is a prerequisite for the successful completion of negotiations.

The Prime Minister’s consultations with representatives of the opposition are scheduled for tomorrow.
