Diop to Spajić: Montenegro's progress is encouraging; full support for completing the airports tender process

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has expressed full support to the Government of Montenegro in completing the tender process for Montenegrin airports – launched seven years ago – in the best interest of the state and its citizens.

This message was conveyed during a meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop in Dubai, held on the margins of the World Governments Summit, which the Prime Minister is attending at the invitation of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

During the meeting, it was assessed that the tender process, relaunched after years of stagnation by the 44th Government of Montenegro, was transparent and conducted in line with international standards.

Prime Minister Spajić briefed the IFC leadership on the projects Montenegro is implementing and planning in the field of transport infrastructure, particularly the continuation of construction of the remaining sections of the Bar–Boljare highway, the Budva bypass, and the modernisation of the railway network.

Transport infrastructure and accessibility are prerequisites for overall economic development and regional connectivity, and Montenegro currently has a number of projects underway in this area. In addition, several initiatives and projects related to the green transition are ongoing, aimed at strengthening energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and accelerating the shift towards sustainable and innovative solutions, the Prime Minister emphasised.

IFC expressed its readiness to support Montenegro through financial instruments, technical assistance and expertise, further strengthening the partnership and opening new opportunities for the implementation of development projects in line with international standards and best practices.

The progress Montenegro is making is encouraging. Reforms are delivering results, and you can count on our support in the future as well, Diop told Prime Minister Spajić.

The possibility of cooperation within projects from various sectors planned under intergovernmental agreements was also discussed.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Public Works Majda Adžović, Prime Minister’s Chief Adviser Branko Krvavac, and Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Tanja Musterović.
