Prime Minister meets with municipal representatives: Concession revenue from airports to fund major projects in Zeta and Tivat

The Government of Montenegro and the municipalities of Zeta and Tivat would formalize an agreement to ensure that any funds allocated to the municipalities through a potential airport concession are used exclusively for the implementation of major infrastructure projects within their territories.
This approach guarantees that the revenue is directed toward the development of local communities—appropriately distributed and invested to improve infrastructure and other essential sectors in these municipalities.
This was the key takeaway from the meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the presidents of municipalities of Tivat and Zeta, Željko Komnenović and Mihailo Asanović, respectively. As emphasized during the meeting, the shared objective is to enhance the quality of life for citizens while creating new employment opportunities.

First, we need to determine whether the concession will be granted at all. What’s certain is that we are aligned with the municipalities in our aim to accelerate the implementation of capital projects. In that context, we are ready to sign agreements and clearly define the projects that will deliver the greatest benefits to citizens in the shortest possible time. Our intention is to fully respond to the needs of local communities and provide them with the necessary support for their further development, said Prime Minister Spajić.
The presidents of municipalities of Tivat and Zeta expressed their full support for this approach, underlining that the potential concession funds represent a valuable opportunity to launch a number of strategic projects in their municipalities.
Our top priority is investment in infrastructure—projects in this area must be implemented dynamically and without delay. We’re pleased that the Government has recognized the importance of reaching a decision in agreement with local authorities, as that is the right path to meet the needs of our citizens, said President of the Municipality of Tivat Željko Komnenović.
Similarly, President of the Municipality of Zeta Mihailo Asanović stressed the importance of efficient fund management for his municipality, with a focus on projects that will bring tangible benefits to residents.
Any option that brings tangible benefits to the people of Zeta is welcome. As a municipality still developing in both administrative and infrastructural terms, we are preparing a range of projects where these potential funds could be effectively invested, said Asanović.
The meetings also included discussions on a variety of current issues, as well as opportunities for further development and strengthening cooperation between the central government and local self-governments—for the benefit of all citizens.
