Prime Minister Spajić meets with IMF team

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) team, led by Srikant Seshadri, to discuss the recent shift in focus towards economic development as a crucial means for progress. During the meeting, they emphasised the importance of political stability, the rule of law, and the Government's commitment to EU membership.

Prime Minister Spajić highlighted the Government's achievements, including the budget rebalancing for 2023, the fiscally responsible Budget for 2024, and efforts to avoid the Moneyval's grey list. He reassured the IMF mission that Montenegro is progressing rapidly toward its goals, aligning with the planned dynamics of fulfilling the Council of Europe's recommendations.

Seshadri expressed satisfaction with the renewed focus on the economy, emphasising that economic development is the only way forward. He underscored the importance of articulating a clear fiscal strategy with concrete and measurable goals for Montenegro. Seshadri praised the preservation of the fiscal deficit rate below 3%, highlighting its significance for attracting future investors.

Both sides exchanged views on the implementation of major infrastructure projects, agreeing that well-planned initiatives would positively impact further economic development. They emphasised the need to strengthen transportation infrastructure, focusing on continuing the motorway project, enhancing airport capacities, and improving railway infrastructure.

The meeting also addressed the importance of relying on accurate data for projections, underscoring the significance of the recently conducted Population and Housing Census.
