Spajić, Plenković: Strong relations between Montenegro and Croatia are important for the entire region

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković on the margins of the Bled Strategic Forum.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the best possible relations between the two countries are not only a strategic interest of Montenegro and Croatia, but also of the wider region. In this context, the meeting at the highest level was seen as a clear expression of commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Croatia’s strong support for Montenegro’s European integration was also reaffirmed.
Discussions focused on Montenegro’s European path, including the plans to close negotiation chapters at the Intergovernmental Conference between the EU and Montenegro, scheduled to take place by the end of this year.
The decision of the Government of Montenegro to place the Josip Marković Cultural Centre in Lastva at the disposal of the Republic of Croatia was once again welcomed as a gesture of friendship and Montenegro’s readiness to address all outstanding issues in the spirit of good neighbourly relations.
In that very spirit, we continue working towards a common future for our two countries, Prime Minister Plenković stated.
The meeting also underscored support for the foreign ministers to continue addressing open issues through regular dialogue. Ministers Ervin Ibrahimović and Gordan Radman Grlić commended the work of existing bilateral bodies, describing them as a solid foundation for further agreements. They also agreed that the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference (EU–Montenegro) will be of key importance for advancing Montenegro’s path toward full EU membership.
The talks further highlighted opportunities to intensify economic cooperation, with a particular focus on investments, enhancing trade exchange, and opening new avenues for business collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting in Bled was also attended by, among others, Croatia’s Minister of Health Irina Hristić and Ambassadors Boris Grigić and Dragan Tufegdžić.
