Visa regime

Nationals of Montenegro may enter, pass through and stay in Chile for up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Diplomatic relations

The Republic of Chile recognized Montenegro on June 27, 2006, and diplomatic relations were established on July 24, 2006. In August 2019, Srdjan Stanković became the Ambassador of Montenegro to Chile, based in Buenos Aires, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile in Zagreb was Richard Gustavo Rojas Gonzalez (received an agreement, but did not submit credential letter for Montenegro).

The Honorary Consulate of Montenegro was opened on September 23, 2016, in San Javier, headed by the Honorary Consul Jose Manuel Romero Tomašević. According to estimates, over 5,000 descendants of Montenegrin emigrants live in Chile.

There are no organizational communities of emigrants, as in neighboring countries, but representatives of emigrants from Chile participated in the Founding Congress of the Association of Montenegrin Communities of Latin America, held on June 5, 2016, in Buenos Aires

Economic indicators

In 2019, Montenegro and Chile exchanged goods worth 490.2 thousand euro, which referred only to imports from Chile.

In 2020, the trade between Montenegro and Chile, which referred only to imports from Chile, amounted to 200.1 thousand euros (a decrease of 59.2% compared to 2019 alone). Most were imported fruits, including nuts; peel of citrus fruits or melons (85.9 thousand euros), fish, shellfish and molluscs (68.4 thousand euros), beverages, alcohol and vinegar (23.1 thousand euros) and oilseeds and fruits (22, 5 thousand euros).
