Visa regime

Nationals of Montenegro may enter, pass through and stay in Colombia for up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Diplomatic relations

The Republic of Colombia recognized Montenegro on September 30, 2009. Diplomatic relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Colombia were established on August 12, 2011.

On April 11, 2018, Colombia submitted a request to change the non-resident embassy in charge of Montenegro from Vienna to Budapest, and Ambassador Carmenza Jaramillo Gutiérrez took over the post of Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Montenegro, based in Budapest on February 24, 2021.

Official visits

Bilateral consultations between the two MFAs were held in Podgorica on August 31, 2017, and this is a visit at the highest level since the restoration of Montenegrin independence. The Colombian delegation was led by the Director for Europe at the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Juan Guillermo Castro Benetti, and included the Ambassador of Colombia to Montenegro, based in Vienna, Alberto Cabal Sanclemente and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Counselor at the Colombian Embassy in Austria, Tobacco Okampo.

 On April 19, 2018, the Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Zoran Janković, received the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia (Maria Holkvin), Piedad Haramillo Restrepo.

Economic indicators

In 2019, the trade between Montenegro and Colombia referred only to imports and amounted to 927.8 thousand euros (a decrease of 30.8% compared to 2018).

In 2020, trade amounted to 617.8 (a decrease of 33.3% compared to 2019) thousand euros and also referred only to imports from Colombia to Montenegro (mostly fruit and edible products and live trees and other plants).
