Visa regime

Nationals of Montenegro may enter, pass through and stay in Romania for up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Diplomatic relations

Romania recognized the independence of Montenegro on June 13th 2006 and diplomatic relations were established on August 9th 2006.

Political relations between Montenegro and Romania are traditionally friendly, based on the principles of openness, continuous cooperation in many areas and mutual support on regional and international level. The two countries share foreign policy priorities, successfully cooperate within NATO structures and Romania has provided continuous support to our country since the restoration of independence in the context of European integration.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to Romania is Goran Poleksić (he took office on October 11th 2018).

Official visits

Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković paid an official visit to Romania on April 3rd  2019.

President of Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajović paid an official visit to Romania on December 10th 2018. 

Prime Minister of Romania Viorika Dancila paid her first official visit to Montenegro from July 25th-26th 2018.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović paid an official visit to Romania on June 5th 2018.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor Melescanu paid an official visit to Montenegro from November 6th-7th  2017.

President of the Lower House of the Parliament of Romania Valeriu Zgonea paid an official visit to Montenegro from December 7th-9th  2015.

Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanović paid an official visit to Romania on November 27th 2013.
