Visa regime

Nationals of Argentina may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Bilateral relations

Relations between Montenegro and Argentina date back to 1904, when Montenegro appointed the first honorary consul in Buenos Aires, Miloš Vukasović. Montenegro and the Argentine Republic nurture friendly relations, with huge potential for their further development in many areas, while the numerous Montenegrin diaspora in Argentina is a historical link between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations

The Republic of Argentina recognized the independence of Montenegro on 23 June 2006, and diplomatic relations were established on 13 September 2006.

The Embassy of the Republic of Argentina covers Montenegro on a non-resident basis, from Belgrade (currently at the level of charge d'affaires), while the Embassy of Montenegro in Argentina, based in Buenos Aires, is headed by Ambassador Srdjan Stankovic (submitted credentials on 20 August 2019).

Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic paid a working visit to Argentina on 9-11. December 2018.

The Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanović paid an official visit to Argentina on 5-8. June 2016.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Milan Rocen paid an official visit to Argentina on 10-11. July 2011.

Economic cooperation 

The volume of trade between Montenegro and Argentina is low and refers exclusively to imports to Montenegro. In 2020, Montenegro and Argentina exchanged goods worth EUR 1,6 million. In 2019, trade amounted to EUR 2,5 million and is entirely related to imports.

In 2019, 1,457 Argentine tourists visited Montenegro (an increase of 51.3% compared to 2018) with 4,205 overnight stays (an increase of 62,9% compared to 2018). In 2018, Montenegro was visited by 815 Argentine tourists, who made 1,567 overnight stays.
