Visa regime

Nationals of Belgium may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Nationals of Belgium may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, without a visa, with a valid identity card issued by the competent authority of Belgium. 


Montenegro and the Kingdom of Belgium have traditionally good relations that were established during the Principality of Montenegro. The Kingdom of Belgium has had a consular office in Cetinje since 1910, and the first honorary vice-consul was Vuko Vuletić. The first honorary consul of Montenegro in Belgium, in the period from 1906 to 1919, was Otto Frank. Today, Belgium strongly supports and makes an important contribution to the achievement of Montenegro's foreign policy goals.

Diplomatic relations 

The Kingdom of Belgium recognized the independence of Montenegro on 23 June, 2006. Diplomatic relations were established on 25 July 2006.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Belgium, resident in Brussels, is Mr.  Ivan Leković (assumed duty on June 26 2020).

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, on a non-resident basis, with the residence in Belgrade, Mr. Konrad Adam, assumed this duty on 19 November 2018, by presenting his credentials to the President of Montenegro, Mr. Milo Đukanović. 

Bilateral high level meetings 

Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. sanZdravko Krivokapić paid a working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium on 24 November 2021. 

Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. Dritan Abazović paid a working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium on 14 September 2021.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Srđan Darmanović paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium on 25 April 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Mr. Didier Reynders paid an official visit to Montenegro on 16 February 2015.

Economic cooperation

In the period January - October 2021, total commodity exchange with Belgium amounted to EUR 16,8 million. In 2020, total commodity exchange with Belgium amounted to EUR 17,9 million out of which EUR 17, 575, 000 worth of imports, and EUR 402 thousand worth of exports. In 2019, total commodity exchange with Belgium amounted to EUR 18, 188, 000 out of which EUR 17,434,000 worth of imports, and EUR 754,000 worth of exports.

In the period January - October 2021, direct investments from Belgium to Montenegro amounted EUR 3,7 million. In 2020, direct investments from Belgium to Montenegro amounted to EUR 3.2 million. In 2019, direct investments from Belgium amount to EUR 5.35 million. In 2018, direct investments from Belgium amount to EUR 17.44 million.

In the period January - October 2021, there were 5 684 tourists from Belgium who visited Montenegro, and this resulted in a total of 15 831 overnights stays. In 2020, there were 2 271 tourists from Belgium who visited Montenegro, and this resulted in a total of 3,525 overnight stays. In 2019, there were 22,207 tourists from Belgium who visited Montenegro (who realized 67,862 overnight stays.
