Visa regime

Nationals of Iceland may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Nationals of Iceland may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, without
a visa, with a valid identity card issued by the competent authority of Iceland.


Political relations between Montenegro and Iceland are very friendly. Iceland is the first country to not only recognize the independence of Montenegro, but also ratify the Protocol on Montenegro's accession to NATO, 11 years later (June 8th 2017). In addition to bilateral cooperation, bearing in mind that both countries are NATO member states, they are cooperating within the Alliance. Also, they cooperate through various platforms of small countries.

Diplomatic relations

Iceland is the first country to recognize Montenegro's independence on June 8th 2006 and diplomatic relations were established on September 29th 2006.

The newly appointed Icelandic ambassador to Montenegro, based in Berlin, Ms. Maria Erli Marelsdottir, has been granted an agreement, and she is expected to hand over her credentials and thus take office.

Official visits

President of Parliament of Iceland Mr. Steingrimur Sigfusson paid an official visit to Montenegro on April 4th 2019.

Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. Milo Đukanović paid an official visit to Iceland on June 29th 2016.

Economic indicators

Until November 2021, Montenegro was visited by 116 tourists from Iceland, who spent 493 nights. In 2020, Montenegro was visited by 46 tourists from Iceland, who spent 262 nights. In 2019, Montenegro was visited by 672 tourists from Iceland, who spent 2,870 nights. In 2018, Montenegro was visited by 661 tourists from Iceland, who spent 2,628 nights.
