VISA REGIME

Nationals of Latvia may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Nationals of Latvia may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, without a visa, with a valid identity card issued by the competent authority of Latvia.

Diplomatic relations

Montenegro and Latvia, as small countries with many similarities in terms of historical challenges, have a strong friendship. In addition to a alliance in NATO, relations between the two countries are characterized by Latvia's strong support for Montenegro's reform efforts on the path to EU membership.

Latvia recognized Montenegro's independence on 12 June 2006, and diplomatic relations were established on 19 June 2006.

The Embassy of Montenegro in Warsaw is in charge of the diplomatic representation of Montenegro in the Republic of Latvia. It currently operates at the level of charge d'affaires a.i.

Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia, on a non-resident basis, stationed in Budapest, Ms. Agnese Kalnina, assumed this duty on 9 July, 2021, by presenting his credentials to the President of Montenegro, Mr. Milo Đukanović

Bilateral high level meetings 

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Srđan Darmanović, paid a working visit to Latvia on 21 February 2020.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Srđan Darmanović paid an official visit to Latvia, on 16-17 May 2017.

Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Darko Pajović was in Latvia on the occasion of the ratification of the Protocol on Montenegro's accession to NATO in the Latvian Parliament, on 6 October 2016.

Latvian Foreign Minister Mr.  Edgars Rinkevičs paid an official visit to Montenegro on 11-12 May 2015.

Economic cooperation

In the period January - October 2021, the total commodity exchange with Latvia amounted to EUR 748 thausands. In 2020, the total commodity exchange with Latvia amounted to EUR 714 thousand out of which EUR 713 thousand worth imports, and insignificantly EUR 1,000 worth of exports. In 2019, the total commodity exchange with In 2019, imports from Latvia were 930 thousand euros, while exports were insignificant (1,000 euros).

In the period January - October 2021, direct investmenrs from Latvia to Montenero amounted to EUR 670 thausands. In 2020, direct investments from Latvia to Montenegro amounted to EUR 783 thousand. In 2019, investments from Latvia amounted to EUR 845 thousand.

In the period January - October 2021, there were 1090 tourists from Latvia who visited Montenegro, and this resulted in total 4 882 overnight stays. In 2020, there were 101 tourists from Latvia who visited Montenegro, and this resulted in total 374 overnight stays. In 2019, there were 1,637 tourists from Latvia who visited Montenegro, and this resulted in total 7,330 overnight stays.
