VISA REGIME

Nationals of Portugal may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Nationals of Portugal may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, without a visa, with a valid identity card issued by the competent authority of Portugal.

Diplomatic relations

The Portuguese Republic recognized Montenegro on June 19, 2006. Diplomatic relations were established on May 17, 2007. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Republic of Portugal, on a non-resident basis based in Paris, is Ambassador Mr. Ivan Ivanišević. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Portugal to Montenegro, on a non - resident basis representing Spain from Belgrade, is Ms. Maria Virgínia Mendes da Silva Pina. 

The Honorary Consul of Montenegro, based in Porto, is Mr. Carlos Pereira Pinto.

Official visits

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Mr. Srđan Darmanović paid an official visit to Portugal on June 24, 2019.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Mr. Milan Roćen paid an official visit to Portugal on February 20, 2008.

Portuguese Foreign Minister Mr. Luis Amado visited Montenegro as EU President on 23 August, 2007.

Economic indicators

The total foreign trade with Portugal in the period January-November 2022 amounted to EUR 5,4 million (imports EUR 5,4 million, exports EUR 8 thousand). The foreign trade in 2021 amounted to EUR 3,8 million (imports EUR 3,8 million, exports EUR 12 thousand). During 2020, total trade amounted to EUR 2,67 million (imports EUR 2,67 million, exports EUR 2 thousand). In 2019, imports from Portugal amounted to EUR 5,22 million, while exports amounted EUR 14 thousand.

The total foreign direct investments from Portugal in the period January-November 2022 amounted to EUR 707 thousand. There were no direct investments from Portugal in 2021. In 2020, EUR 311 thousand of foreign direct investments from Portugal were recorded.

Montenegro was visited by 2,549 tourists from Portugal in the period January-November 2022, who had 6,394 overnight stays. In 2021 Montenegro was visited by 1,639 tourists from Portugal who had 5,167 overnight stays. In 2020 Montenegro was visited by 300 Portuguese tourists, who had 1,225 overnight stays. In 2019, Montenegro was visited by 813 Portuguese tourists, who had 2,974 overnight stays.
