Visa regime

Nationals of Thailand are required to obtain a visa to enter Montenegro.

Visas may be obtained from diplomatic and consular posts of Montenegro. If you are unable to reach a diplomatic or consular post of Montenegro, you may apply for a visa at the nearest diplomatic or consular post of the Republic of Serbia.

Diplomatic Relations

Montenegro and the Kingdom of Thailand are developing traditionally friendly relations.

On August 16, 2006, the Kingdom of Thailand recognized the independence of Montenegro, and diplomatic relations were established on June 6, 2007.

The Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Thailand was opened on January 16, 2016, headed by prof. Vichuda Ratanapian, as the Honorary Consul of Montenegro in the Kingdom of Thailand.

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Montenegro (baed in Budapest) Bhakavat Tanskulu was granted an Agrément (the date of presenting credentials to the President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović is expected to be scheduled). Until his appointment, the function of temporary charge d'affaires is performed by Pilanya Niyomathai.

On March 8, 2015, Ambassador Vladimir Radulović presented the credentials to Crown Prince Maha Vasiralongkorn and thus became the first non-resident Ambassador of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Thailand.

Political Contacts

In March 2012, the President of the DPS, Milo Đukanović, paid a working visit to Thailand and, at this occasion, had meetings with the former Prime Minister Jingluk Shinawatra, and with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Energy, Transport, as well as with numerous party and state officials.

In March 2010, a delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro, led by the Secretary General Damir Davidović, participated in the 122nd Session of the Parliament of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Bangkok.

On September 13 and 14, 2013, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Thailand Jingluk Shinawatra paid an official visit to Montenegro and met with President Filip Vujanović, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapić.

In August 2010, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Kasit Piromja visited Montenegro and at this occasion had meetings with President Filip Vujanović, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and with Minister of Foreign Affairs  Milan Roćen.

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Milan Roćen and Kasit Piromja, met on the sidelines of the Community of Democracies summit in Kraków (July 2010), as well as on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York (September 2009).

Economic Cooperation / International Trade

Montenegro's foreign trade with Thailand in the period January - November 2020 referred to imports worth 4.4 million. € (until export is recorded). No foreign direct investment was recorded during 2020.

According to "Monstat", the arrival of tourists from the Kingdom of Thailand was not recorded in 2020.

Miscellaneous

The Thai International Cooperation Agency (TICA), on an annual basis, offers Montenegrin candidates training under the International Annual Training Program (AITC) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro is  responsible for providing communication with the mentioned agency.
