Diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Kosovo were established on January 15, 2010.

Currently, the Embassy of Montenegro in Republic of Kosovo is at the level of charge d'affaires until the appointment of the new ambassador. 

Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Montenegro, Ylber Hysa assumed this duty on September 9, 2019.

High-level bilateral meetings

The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, paid a working visit to the Republic of Kosovo on May 29, 2019.

On March 21, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Srdjan Darmanović, paid an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo.

Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic on 15-16 February 2019, held separate meetings with the President of the Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaci and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dusko Markovic, on 14-15 February 2018 paid an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo.

On September 11, 2018, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, paid an official visit to Montenegro.

On September 25, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Behđet Pacolli, paid an official visit to Montenegro.

Economic cooperation

Trade in 2020 amounted to 30,093 million euros, of which imports amounted to 6,674 million euros and exports 23,419 million euros. Exports of goods from Montenegro to Kosovo decreased compared to 2019 in the amount of less than 6 million euros.

In 2020, foreign direct investment from Kosovo to Montenegro amounted to 4,549m euros. Foreign direct investment from Kosovo in 2019 amounted to 7.644 million euros, which is a significant increase compared to 3.3 million euros in 2018, and compared to 2.2 million euros in 2017.

Montenegro was visited by 7,876 tourists from Kosovo in the period January-October 2020, who realized 32,157 overnight stays, which is a sharp drop in both categories compared to the previous year, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictive preventive measures.
