Podgorica, Montenegro (29 July 2016) -- Deputy Prime Minister Petar Ivanović met earlier today with Ambassador of Turkey to Montenegro Serhat Galip.

The Ambassador informed the Deputy Prime Minister about the current situation in Turkey and activities this country is undertaking in order to stabilise the state of emergency. He voiced confidence that the situation will normalise as soon as possible and the country will continue intensive economic development and European integration. Ambassador Galip thanked DPM Ivanović for very constructive cooperation and stressed that Turkey will continue its strong support for full membership of Montenegro in NATO. He recalled that the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO has passed the procedure of parliamentary bodies, thereby creating conditions for its ratification in the Parliament.

DPM Ivanović pointed out that, since the restoration of Montenegro's independence, the two countries have developed very good and fruitful cooperation. The common goal is to boost the cooperation in the coming period, through membership in NATO, as well as through the strengthening of bilateral economic cooperation. DPM Ivanović stressed the importance of stabilising the situation in Turkey for further prosperity and development of the country and overall international, especially, economic relations.

Discussing joint projects that were implemented in Montenegro, the two officials agreed that the implemented activities contributed to improving the quality of life of citizens of Montenegro. A good example is the recently opened water supply system in Rožaje. Galip and Ivanović stressed the importance of projects in agriculture and rural infrastructure implemented by the Turkish Development Agency (TIKA), also emphasising the importance of enhancing the Turkish investments in Montenegro. In the area of agriculture, there are projects planned to be implemented in cooperation with the TIKA, but there is enough room for new ideas and initiatives, the two officials stressed.
