Abazović, Borrell, and Varhelyi hold a joint press conference

The EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Council held its eleventh meeting on 14 July 2022 in Podgorica. Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, and EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhely held a joint press conference following the meeting.

This was the first time that the Stabilisation and Association Council meeting took place outside the European Union. Participants discussed the accession strategy – in particular in the light of the Commission’s Montenegro 2021 Report. The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of Montenegro's progress in accession negotiations and to look forward to the further work needed within the framework of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The Council held an exchange of views on developments in Montenegro and the regional situation in the Western Balkans.
