In a significant step towards addressing long-standing concerns, Prime Minister Dritan Abazović marked a momentous occasion by inaugurating the first phase of the reconstructed regional road Pljevlja - Metaljka, establishing a vital connection between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Abazović expressed his belief that this symbolic and substantial development signifies a shift in trends, signifying the end of the neglect this city has faced in the past. He stated, "From the outset, I have been vocal about the unjustified neglect this city has endured. Today, I hope that this project marks a turning point, and I firmly believe that such occasions will become more frequent within the territory of the Pljevlja municipality."

Prime Minister Abazović emphasised that the Government stands ready to assist in enhancing the road networks, both towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The primary objective is to create more accessible roadways, ensuring increased mobility for citizens and businesses in the coming years.

President of the Municipality of Pljevlja Dario Vraneš expressed his satisfaction with the modernised traffic route, highlighting that this marks the first significant reconstruction in over 130 years since the road's initial construction. The revitalised road is set to benefit all residents of Pljevlja.

With the successful completion of the first phase, Director of the Transport Administration Radomir Vuksanović praised the excellent cooperation with the current local government in Pljevlja. He confirmed that the tender for selecting a designer to reconstruct the remaining section of the road up to the Bosnian and Herzegovinian border has already been launched.

"We have also reached an agreement with the new local government for a 4 km stretch that will connect the city centre directly to this road. The municipality will handle the project, and the Transport Administration will oversee the reconstruction," added Vuksanović.

The reconstructed segment of the Pljevlja - Metaljka regional road, Phase I Krće (Baljenovac), spans 15 km. The project, valued at 12,097,955 euros including VAT, was executed by Crnagoraput, while Projectman - Podgorica provided supervision services and Interproject - Podgorica was responsible for the project documentation.

This initiative signifies a pivotal moment in the region's development, showcasing Montenegro's commitment to modernise its infrastructure and foster improved connectivity for its citizens.
