Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met with Vice-Chancellor of the Republic of Austria Werner Kogler. The decision that Austria will be the address of the first official visit of the Prime Minister of Montenegro, when it comes to the countries of the European Union, speaks of the fact that we recognise Austria as a sincere friend that provides us with comprehensive support in achieving our strategic foreign policy goal - full EU membership, said PM Abazović.

Prime Minister Abazović said that the two countries have excellent cooperation in all areas.

The Austrian government attaches great importance to the Western Balkans. Welcoming Prime Minister Abazović on his first official visit gives us confidence in our strong ties with the region. As the country that is committed to European values and the Paris Agreement, Montenegro could serve as a role model to other Western Balkan countries, said Vice-Chancellor Kogler.

Prime Minister Abazović emphasised the importance of the assistance that Austria provides to Montenegro in terms of European integration. It is reflected, as he stated, in constant technical assistance to our institutions, by pointing out the best practices and providing expert assistance in certain negotiation chapters.

European integration has no alternative for Montenegro. Therefore, the Government is firmly determined to persevere in all reforms, close all chapters and become the next EU member, said Abazović.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the economic cooperation with Austria, especially when it comes to Austrian direct investments in Montenegro, which in the period from 2007 to 2020 amounted to a total of 600 million euros.
