Prime Minister Dritan Abazović led a delegation on a visit to the devastated forest area in Jelovica, Berane. Accompanying him were members of the National Anti-Corruption Council, several ministers, representatives from various institutions, Special State Prosecutor Vukas Radonjić, and dedicated NGO activists.

During a press briefing, Prime Minister Abazović emphasized that the National Security Agency has compiled a comprehensive report, cataloging individuals and companies reasonably suspected of engaging in illegal deforestation activities across Montenegro. This illegal activity has resulted in the depletion of natural resources, collectively valued at likely exceeding a billion euros over the past three decades.

Special State Prosecutor Vukas Radonjić expressed optimism, stating, 'I am pleased that these developments are unfolding right at the heart of our forests. Collaborative efforts among various agencies are taking root. I have full confidence that all prosecutors will respond appropriately once they receive the necessary evidence from our investigative authorities.'

Minister of Ecology, Ana Novaković Đurović, affirmed the government's unwavering commitment to ending illegal deforestation practices.

The Administration for Inspection Affairs, in close cooperation with the police, has executed a total of 266 inspections across northern Montenegro in the last twenty days to proactively curb illegal deforestation. During this period, authorities identified 108 infractions, resulting in 113 misdemeanor citations totaling 44,500 euros in fines. Furthermore, five criminal charges have been filed against individuals and responsible entities that were subject to inspection. The remarkable achievements of the Administration can be attributed to effective logistical support, swift actions, and a highly productive collaborative relationship with both the police and the Supreme Prosecutor's Office, as explained by Ana Vujošević, Director of the Administration for Inspection Affairs.
