Budva to get a €237 million bypass

The construction of a bypass around Budva, as part of a planned expressway along the Montenegrin coast, will be included in this year’s budget through a technical rebalancing following the recent Cabinet reshuffle. A public tender for the nine-kilometre section—stretching from Markovići to Lastva Grbaljska—is expected to be launched by the end of the year.

This section represents the first phase of a modern coastal route featuring eight bridges with a total length of 1.74 kilometres and two tunnels spanning 3.98 kilometres. The project is based on a conceptual design prepared by Monteput as part of Montenegro’s Spatial Plan.

The investment is valued at €237 million, including VAT, while land expropriation costs are estimated at an additional €20 million. It will be financed from the capital budget, with Monteput responsible for implementation.

The bypass will connect the Podgorica–Budva and Budva–Tivat main roads, significantly diverting transit traffic away from Budva’s urban core. This will help reduce congestion, shorten travel times, lower pollution levels, enhance road safety, and improve the overall experience for tourists.

Through this strategic infrastructure development, Montenegro is making a significant step towards improving transport connectivity and fostering the long-term growth of tourism and economy.
