The Council on Child Rights held its constitutive session, chaired by Prime Minister Dritan Abazović.

The session discussed the Work Programme of the Council for 2023 and 2024 and the violence against children and young people.

The two-year Work Programme of the Council was adopted, prepared by the Council Secretariat in cooperation with UNICEF and in consultation with all stakeholders dealing with the protection of the rights of the child, based on legal requirements arising from national strategic documents, as well as obligations based on ratified regional and international treaties.

Discussing the violence against children and young people, the Council expressed concern about the frequent violence among children and young people as well as violence against children in general and agreed that all necessary measures must be taken to combat this phenomenon. Within two weeks, the Council members shall submit proposals of models that would lead to the final goal - combating violence among children and young people and violence against children in general.

Prime Minister and President of the Council Dritan Abazović urged the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Education, the Police Directorate as well as all other competent institutions to strengthen supervision in order to point out the importance of solving this problem since the protection of the rights of the child is one of the most important topics of the entire society.
